Johannes Wohnseifer (*1967 in Cologne) currently lives and works in Erftstadt and Cologne, where he teaches as professor at
the Academy of Media Arts. His video works, photographs, sculptures
and installations contain many references to design and art history. They are denoted to an analyse of our everyday life, which has been shaped by mass
media, in which the hierarchies of the intellectual and the undemanding have
become obsolete. He takes up everyday culture determined by mass media and can be understood as a
contemporary answer to Pop Art of the 1960s. The artist’s works are represented
in many international collections, including Saatchi Gallery, London; Boros
Collection, Berlin; Museum Ludwig, Cologne and the Collection of Contemporary
Art of the Federal Republic of Germany in Berlin.
Galerie Elisabeth & Klaus Thoman is pleased to present sculptures in
the second solo exhibition with Johannes Wohnseifer in Vienna. In Wiedergabe Johannes Wohnseifer refers to his own sculptural work, in particular the cube – the essential basic sculptural form, that he used in many different contexts. The following catalogue with texts on all
the works in the exhibition provides central insights into Wohnseifer’s
strategies in his artistic work, letting us participate in his thought processes.
