Peter Sandbichler is a conceptual sculptor who intertwines sociopolitical themes with fundamental questions of sculptural aesthetics, exploring surface, space, and time as well as material, form, and process. Using various media, he creates expansive objects, installations, and architectural interventions in public spaces. His work operates at the intersection of deformation and perfection, engaging with structures, ornaments, and grids, deconstructing them, and generating new orders.
Born 1964 in Kufstein (Tyrol, Austria), lives and works in Vienna. In 1983, Sandbichler started studying art at Art Students League in New York. Continuing at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 1984 with Prof. Wander Bertoní and finished his degree in the class of Bruno Gironcoli at Accademy of Applied Arts Vienna in 1991.
