The self-portrait as the ultimate internal resistance: The newly presented “Selfst” series deals with the phenomenon of self-portraiture as an artist, as well as with selfie culture. Ten works, sized 32 x 27 cm, elaborated through a combination of printing and manual techniques, depict facial photos of Wohnseifer, ranging from generic passport photos to private shots of his own child. Remotely altered through various technical interventions, the difficulty of one’s own image(s) is humorously addressed. This aspect is also ironically reflected in the final presentation of just one work from the series in the exhibition.
