Since 2011, Peter Sandbichler has been developing works in his series Origami, in which individual pages of the German weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT are transformed into sculptural reliefs through precise folding patterns, such as herringbone structures. The originally flat, linear surface is converted into a topographical structure that oscillates between image and sculpture. Texts and images of the newspaper remain partially visible, but lose their immediate legibility, transforming into ornamental patterns of light and shadow. This shifts perception: instead of the informational content, the materiality and form of the surface come to the forefront.
