Since 2011, Peter Sandbichler has been developing his series “Origami”, in which individual pages of the German weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT are transformed into sculptural reliefs through precise folding patterns such as herringbone structures. The originally flat, linear surface is thus turned into a topographical configuration that oscillates between image and sculpture. Texts and images from the newspaper remain partially visible but lose their immediate legibility, becoming ornamental structures of light and shadow. In this way, perception shifts: instead of informational content, the materiality and form of the surface take center stage.
