The careful selection of sites for his interventions and the dialogue between site and object represent essential starting points in Michael Kienzer’s work. His artistic approach is determined by the inclusion of existing design elements and the specific conditions of the location. The large meadow between the entrance courtyards of the castle grounds offers sufficient space and at the same time a clearly defined boundary for the “Circles” sculpture which consists of an aluminium and steel structure comprising four symmetrically arranged circles of equal size. The overall structure is designed like a three-dimensional sketch that forms a body or space with geometric contours. The connection between linearity and three-dimensional form also creates an intriguing tension that has the potential to influence the way the sculpture is perceived. Although the four circles do not fulfil any function, they remain enigmatic. As a production surface, they offer various opportunities for spatial experience. The viewer is faced with the decision to find their own personal way of interpreting them. (Inga Kleinknecht, Linz 2025)
