Galerie Elisabeth & Klaus Thoman is pleased to host Julia Haugeneder’s first solo exhibition in their premises in Vienna.
An installation made of bookbinding glue, pigment and rubber ropes forms the setting for the modular sculpture Floppy, whose five levels serve as independent objects as well as supports for Julia Haugeneder’s foldings. On view is the artist’s first film work (in collaboration with Matteo Sanders) entitled “Farewell. Or a person and a donkey know more than a person alone”. The film deals with themes of cohesion, care work and communality in the 20th and 21st century, using the history and prominence of the material plastic. A linoleum print with the motif of a microwave egg cooker, a bizarre cultural object of the nineties and today an object in the National Museum of American History in Washington, is placed at the beginning of the exhibition.
