A series of photographs the artist took for a period of more than five years from the same spot of an Autobahn in Germany.
The intersection Köln-West is one of the busiest and most frequented stretches of highway in Europe and is being passed from all car traffic coming from South Europe heading to Benelux, France and UK.
The BAUHAUS-signs which are located directly at the highway are depicted in each and everyone of the thousands of photos which have been took in the past years by the artist on the way to to his studio.
The title “In the German West” is also referring to Richard Avedon’s photo project “In the American West”, 1979-84.
Whereas Avedon produced many thousands photos and destroyed most of them once he made a final selection of 124 portraits, Wohnseifer is focussing more on his diary like process and is planning to show the complete set of photographs in a publication.
A first selection of the works is being used as source material for the new painting series.
