Biography

Johannes Wohnseifer was born in 1976 in Cologne. Today he lives and works in Cologne and Erftstadt and teaches as a professor at the Kunsthochschule für Medien, Cologne.

His video works, photographs, sculptures and installations contain references to the history of art and design and analyze our everyday life, defined by mass media in which the hierachies between highbrow and lowbrow have become invalid. His painting, a focal point of his oeuvre, often contains complex historical references to society, economy, design and pop. It deals with everyday culture through mass media and can be understood as a contemporary answer to the pop art of the 1960s.

The artist’s works can be seen in numerous international collections including: The Saatchi Gallery, London; The Boros Collection, Berlin; Museum Ludwig, Cologne and The Collection of Contemporary Art of the Federal Republic of Germany in Berlin. The artist is represented by Galerie Elisabeth & Klaus Thoman Innsbruck/Vienna; The Gisela Capitain Gallery, Cologne; Johann König, Berlin and Casey Kaplan, New York.
